A small apartment building, a clinic with six rooms, a shop with a back office: each in Spring Valley benefits from one key that opens everything and individual keys that open only what they should. We design the system, pin the cylinders, and record who holds which key so it stays manageable. The same crew covers Alberton, Ancaster, Duff's Corners and Trinity.

Every lock service we provide in Spring Valley starts with the same first step, which is looking at the door properly before deciding anything. The individual pages below explain what that look involves for each job, how the work is carried out, and what to expect from the hardware afterwards.

The company covers Spring Valley around the clock, and the visit costs the same whenever it happens. The locksmith who arrives at midnight is the same one you would see at midday, with the same stocked van and the same habit of explaining first. A lockout is stressful enough without wondering whether the hour changed anything about the service.

Shop rules

Getting you back inside, gently.

  1. A look before a verdict. We inspect the door, frame and lock before suggesting anything. Diagnosing from the driveway is how people end up with parts they did not need.
  2. Two or three real choices. Where there are sensible alternatives we explain them side by side, including the option of doing less than you expected.
  3. The job finished properly. Tested, aligned, cleaned up and demonstrated. We do not consider a lock done until you have turned the key yourself.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Call and tell us about the door.

How a visit goes

Many of our visits end without a new lock being sold, and we consider those good visits. A cylinder cleaned and re-lubricated, a strike shimmed, a hinge screw tightened, a key cut fresh from code: small work that makes a door feel new again.

    Call and describe the door

Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

    On our way

You tell us what is happening with the door, who has keys and what you would like to be different afterwards. We ask a few questions so we arrive with the right parts.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 61 in 100 homes · older homes
  • About 61% of homes in Hamilton were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Older housing means older frames. Wood that has settled for years leaves strikes slightly out of line, so a bolt drags or needs a lift of the handle. A locksmith expects this and brings the shims, longer screws and strike plates to correct it.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 56% of homes in Hamilton (2021 Census).Where housing types are mixed, the same lost-key call means different things. In a house, rekey every door on the property. In an apartment, rekey the suite door and check with management about the common entrance. The locksmith asks which it is first.

Your questions, our answers

What is a security strike box and why fit one?

A security strike is a heavier plate with a formed steel pocket that wraps around the bolt instead of leaving it in bare wood. It is set into the jamb and fixed with long screws, typically three inches, that pass through the jamb and the shim space into the framing, with the longest screws placed nearest the door stop where the bolt bears. Manufacturers specify the pocket depth so the bolt extends fully. The result spreads a kick across the wall stud rather than two small screws.

Will a smart lock fit my existing door?

Most residential doors have the standard preparation these locks are designed around: a large hole for the lock body, a smaller one in the edge for the bolt, and a thickness between roughly 35 and 45 millimetres. The locksmith measures all three plus the backset before recommending a model. Thicker doors take an extension kit, thin or glass-panelled doors and older doors with a mortise pocket call for a particular model or some preparation, and all of that is sorted out before the box is opened.

My key snapped off in the gate lock. What now?

The broken piece is removed with extraction tools shaped to grip and draw it out, rather than forcing it further in, and the door or gate is then opened using the remaining portion or by working the cylinder directly. Afterward the locksmith checks why the key broke, since a healthy cylinder rarely snaps a key on its own; a stiff or corroded plug is a common cause outdoors. A fresh key is cut from the code or a clean original rather than a worn copy.

Can all our doors be put on a single key?

Yes, if the cylinders share a keyway or can be fitted with ones that do. Keying everything alike is popular with small shops because staff carry one key and spares are simple. The trade-off is that one key then opens the cash room as readily as the front door. Many businesses choose a middle path: the doors everyone uses on one key, the sensitive rooms on another, and an owner's master that opens both.
